1. Entitled, “What’s Past is Prologue”

The title’s meaning isn’t the typical historical context, but rather what happened before comes full circle in both good and bad ways. It’s not strictly J/D, and there is no J/D throughout most of it. This means that most people won’t read it, but I really don’t care because it’s something I’ve been wanting to write for a while.

PLOT QUESTION: Why did the Goa’uld Camulus look exactly like Major Coburn (in reality, same actor, but c’mon, it was too obvious so I want a fictional answer)?

PLOT ANSWER: After Shau’re died, Daniel found respite and love in the arms of Major Michael Coburn, leader of SG-2. They were together for a year, and then SG-2 is ambushed and killed during “The Curse” and its leader is declared MIA because he couldn’t be found. This is what happens to him, and what happens to Daniel after he goes missing, and over the course of four years, ending after a revised Zero Hour.

Changes: Stargate program began in 2010. Daniel was 28, Jack was 39, and Michael was 29. There are *six* years of the program, not *eight* (no nine and ten season) because many of the episodes I consider throwaways don’t exist.

ADVISORY: There is a lot of Self-Pity/Angry Daniel and a lot of Asshole Jack. They don’t get together until near the end, so consider a lot of angst and negative emotion.

This story may not end up going anywhere but it has about 3,000 words so far. It’s major angsty and heartwrenching.

2. "Mindful”

This is a telepathic Daniel story, and how Jack finds out. They aren’t together at the beginning but they are at the end. Jack reveals his feelings to Daniel, but Daniel rebuffs him because he can’t tell Jack about what he can do, who he really is, because he believes he’ll be rejected. He doesn’t want to put them both through that. In the meantime, there’s a killer at Stargate Command and it’s up to Daniel to find out who he is without revealing himself–and of course, it doesn’t work.

3. “Trilogy 15”

I have ideas but none of them are settling down. I have to write an ending to this series, even though I thought I never would. 🙁

Summary: The aftermath of Hathor, which then follows other episodes for about a year and a half, during which Daniel goes through his own version of hell and healing. The only good he finds is Jack. *** It’s not as dark as it sounds ***

Quote: “My Immortal” by Evanescence. First part is Daniel. Second is Jack.

Author Notes:

Hathor raped Daniel, and assaulted Jack. These are the terms for drugging someone to force them to have sex or to alter their body. Rape is a crime of violence used as a tool to assert power and control and inflict terror. Date Rape is no different–that’s not relevant here. It just needs saying.
This is an alternate timeline, where Shau’re died on Abydos. The mission to Chulak was to save Skaara, and they failed.
Episodes and certain facts have been altered (see AU designation). The timeline for Stargate SG-1 has been advanced 10 years to take advantage of technology.

As Slash Newbies

Upon finding Slashfic, why do we first find the stories that tend to characterize Daniel as a teenage girl and Jack as his daddy? The corollary would be why are those characterizations predominant in our slash part of the fandom? Does this happen in Ship, too?

I expect that sort of thing when we're younger since we learn as we go, but for those of us who're older, it's a mystery. I've never been able to figure it out in the 14 years I've been writing slash.

Is this a Harlequin Romance thing perhaps? Do those of us who like those stories transfer that to slash? Or is this just a case of reading everything and whittling down our preferences over time? When I found slash, I read the sappier characterizations, but it didn't take long for me to gravitate to the more realistic representations. But it still begs the question: Why do we, as newbies, find the sappier, less accurate portrayals first?

I had this need to write a Beneath The Surface episode tag, but every time I started the story, from either Jack's or Daniel's POV, it didn't sit well. So I decided that perhaps it's time to hear Sam's side of the story. :)

Gay or Straight, Slash 'Em

I periodically read the Gay Voices page on Huffington Post. That said, I still don't pay much attention to who's gay or straight unless I hear about it on a radio show I listen to or I see it on my FB timeline.

On Gay Voices today, they had a slideshow of the celebrities who've come out. When I came to Sean Maher's picture, I'm sitting there going, "Wait, what?"

My reaction to this is strange. Not that he's gay. It makes me feel more at ease about slashing Simon Tam and Mal Reynolds. Why ease/unease? B/C I have this thing about keeping fanfic away from actors. ;) I mean, seriously, they're not the characters and so don't have any business being asked to read fanfic or being told about it. Many Con-going fans of SG-1 or Firefly or Heroes, etc., bring up slash with the actors. Naturally, they can do what they want--and pardon me, but I have to actually go out of my way to say that b/c too many people assume negatives when not given a detailed yet pointless explanatory "explain yourself".

So I see that Sean's gay and okay, great, good for him for coming out (wish it was never necessary and that we can all be who we are at all times). And then I wonder why the hell it makes me feel better for slashing his character on Firefly. Perhaps it's b/c of my feelings about sharing slash with actors, or perhaps it's something else. I don't care for RP Fic, so I know it isn't that.

So I'm left curious. And I now have yet another unwritten Firefly bunny. *eyeroll*
